Wiper Week Is Back – And Yes, the Wipers Are Free

Metro Motor auto repair technicians stand in front of three vehicles to kick off Wiper Week 2026

Spring is here in the DMV, which means unpredictable weather, sudden showers, and the time of year when many drivers realize winter was rough on the old blades and their windshield wipers probably need replacing.

Instead of waiting for the next storm to expose worn-out blades, take command of your safety on the road by installing new wipers today. To help, Metro Motor launched Wiper Week, a community safety initiative offering free windshield wiper replacements and installation for drivers in Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia.

Yes, actually free.

This small fix can make a big difference.

Windshield wipers are one of those things people rarely think about until they stop working well. But they matter more than most drivers realize.

Windshield wipers were actually invented in 1903 by Mary Anderson, who came up with the idea after watching streetcar operators struggle to clear snow from their windows by hand. More than 120 years later, her invention is still doing its job, and doing it a lot. The average set of wipers swipes about 1.5 million times before needing replacement.

That’s a lot of rainstorms, pollen seasons, and early morning commutes.

Wiper Week hits the road to help drivers in need.

Wiper Week officially kicked off earlier this week and the response has been incredible. Drivers have been stopping by Metro Motor locations across the DMV to get fresh wipers installed on their front windshield in just minutes.

To start the week with a bang and to help spread the word, we welcomed Veronica Ogbe, host of ABC7's morning news program Good Morning Washington, to our auto repair shop in North Arlington.

And naturally… things turned competitive.

During the live segment, three Metro Motor team members from across our locations – Kamil (Clarendon), Karla (Palisades), and Tony (Capitol Hill) – squared off to see who could replace a set of windshield wipers the fastest.

Tony confidently announced, “I think I’m gonna win the competition because I’m super competitive.” Karla promised she would “show these guys who’s boss and show them girls do it better.” Kamil kept it short: “I’m gonna be the fastest one obviously.”

Less than a minute later, the challenge was over. Press play for a behind-the-scenes look at who won!

Turns out replacing wipers really can be quick when you know what you’re doing, which is exactly why our technicians handle the installation for every driver who participates in Wiper Week.

Here's how you can get free windshield wipers during Wiper Week.

There are two easy ways to participate:

Visit any Metro Motor location all week long.
Drivers from D.C., Maryland, or Virginia can receive free windshield wipers with installation when they visit any Metro Motor location for any vehicle repair or maintenance service during Wiper Week. No registration required; just come in for service and we’ll take care of the rest.

Join the community giveaway event at the D.C. DMV Inspection Station.
For drivers who just want new wipers installed, Metro Motor is hosting an open-to-all public giveaway event. Simply register your vehicle in advance at WiperWeek.org to reserve an installation spot. The event is hosted in collaboration with the D.C. DMV:

D.C. DMV Inspection Station
1001 Half St. SW
Washington, D.C. 20024
Saturday, April 11 from 10:00am to 2:00pm

Whether you drop by one of our auto repair shops or you come to the Saturday event, Metro Motor technicians will remove your old blades, install new ones on-site, and recycle the used wipers whenever possible.

If you’ve been meaning to replace your windshield wipers, this is the easiest way to do it. Register at WiperWeek.org, pull in, say hello, and leave with clearer visibility for spring driving.

Free blades are available while supplies last and may vary depending on vehicle make and model.

Why did we start Wiper Week?

At Metro Motor, Wiper Week isn’t about promotions or sales. It’s about keeping our community safer on the road.

Good visibility prevents accidents. It protects families, commuters, ride-share drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, and everyone sharing the road when weather turns unpredictable.

Sometimes the smallest fixes make the biggest difference.

And this week, that fix is free.

Register now at WiperWeek.org and we’ll see you Saturday.
