5 Important Tips to Get the Most of Your Fuel

5 Important Tips to Get the Most of Your Fuel

As any money-saving or environment-conscious person knows, fuel is something that needs to be used as efficiently as possible. To help you save money, (and the planet!) we have compiled the following article.

5 Must-Know Tips for Saving Fuel

1. Take As Few Trips as Necessary

This may sound obvious, but it’s true! Especially when considering that each time you start a car and drive those first five miles of a drive, you consume much more fuel than if the car was driving those five miles during the middle of a trip. To save fuel, take as few trips as possible. Think about more efficient ways to get places.

2. Don’t Idle the Car

Many of us are prone to do this, especially during winter-time. Don’t waste time warming up the car in the driveway-it will warm up faster if the car is moving. If you do spend time in the driveway sitting in the car, ensure that this is done no more than thirty seconds after starting. Any more than this is likely to waste fuel.

3. Take Out the Junk!

Another factor drivers rarely think about when it comes to saving fuel is the weight of the car. The heavier the car is, the more fuel needs to be used. Because of this, take active steps to lighten your car as much as possible. Remove any unnecessary tools or objects from the trunk and insides of the car, only carrying what you need.

4. Use Cruise Control While Driving on the Highway

If there is no reason to adjust your vehicle’s speed, don’t do it! It wastes fuel and is completely unneeded. Using cruise control while on the highway or other areas where your vehicle remains at a constant speed can help you save fuel.

5. Get a Tune-up

Taking good care of your engine is one of the best ways to save fuel. So is regularly changing your oil. Proper maintenance is the key to a long lasting car and long lasting fuel.
